The film follows how a trauma suffered at seven years old set Dr. Bernard LaFayette, Jr. on the path that would carry him into the civil rights movement and, eventually, into the work of changing a nation.

Dr. Clayborne Carson, founding director of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute, conducts the interview. The conversation covers Dr. LaFayette’s childhood, his entry into the movement, and the thinking that shaped six decades of nonviolence education.
